At an unknown point in time, Collier learned to speak German.

Death

"Go."
Don "Wardaddy" Collier's last word, ordering Norman Ellison to escape[src]

After already having been shot, Sergeant Collier was hit with three shots from a sniper. After the final shot, he managed to finish crawling his way back into "Fury". He asked Norman not to surrender and informed him about a below hatch in the tank.

German troops soon dropped two grenades into the tank and Collier ordered Norman to go. Shortly after Norman made his way through the hatch and under the tank, Collier shut his eyes, accepting his fate, as the grenades went off, killing him.

Norman later entered the tank, again and covered Collier's body with his jacket. He was soon rescued by American forces, with "Fury" being left at the crossroads.
