The Finest Hours is an upcoming American disaster drama film directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay written by Scott Silver, Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy, based on the 2009 book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. The film is based on the true story of the Pendleton rescue mission attempt in 1952 by Coast Guard ships, wherein two oil tankers were split asunder by a nor'easter. The film is due to be released by Walt Disney Pictures in the Disney Digital 3-D, RealD 3D, and IMAX 3D formats on January 29, 2016.
